Registry mechanic review
Registry Mechanic by PCTools.com is one of the easiest registry cleaner utilities on the market. It’s sleek interface and easy to navigate buttons make it a good registry cleaner choice for both novice and advanced users. The trusted brand that PC Tools has developed and numerous awards that both Registry Mechanic and their other PC utilities have won gives this registry cleaner a certain trust factor. Using Registry Mechanic
There are 3 options when you open Registry mechanic they are: Scan your registry, compact registry, and optimize your system. I like this, not a bunch of options that I feel intimidated by, just a straight forward user interface.
The actual scan of your registry can be done as a “quick” or a “full” scan like most registry cleaners I’ve reviewed. After the scan is complete the errors are divided up into categories and displayed for you to choose which should be removed and which can be left alone. You can select items to include to discard with check boxes.
A very user friendly feature is how Registry Mechanic groups the errors it finds. The importance of errors are rated with a bar system (see screen shot at right). This gives even beginners a good idea of how severe a problem is or isn’t.

Registry Mechanic Features
Beyond the base registry scanning and error detection ability Registry Mechanic boasts a very robust system optimization tool. It applies:
“ a set tweaks and patches directly into the Windows® Registry that are designed to improve system performance. “
The system optimization tool also offers a defrag tool, start menu item sorting, and continued monitoring of your system (see screen shot at left for optimization screen).
Registry Mechanic doesn’t offer a long list of tools (that are often useless) like some other registry cleaners do. How ever the added features it does offer are useful.
Support
PCTools.com is a big company, they’re not a fly by night operation, and their registry cleaner is only one of several products. They offer online support and an in depth FAQ that will likely answer any questions you might have. Their response time is good, less then a day during regular business hours. I’d rank Registry Mechanic at the top for service and support of their product.
